Calgary

Panic! Panic! Panic! Poor Frankie was biting his fingernails as we couldn't find anywhere to rest our weary heads for our four day stay in Banff.

Calgary is a welcoming place ... a calm and organised city of approx 1m inhabitants, all very multicultural.  We spoke to very few Canadians in fact; many Asians, Indians, Portugese, Russians and Germans, and all fluent in the French linguals!  Lots of Mexicans too!

Temperatures are mild, very similar to winter in Brisbane ... but keep in mind, we're in their summer now and people are complaining about the heat while walking their dogs!!!

Evidence of retail struggles appear even here.  Service stations, boutiques and eateries all shutting up shop or closed indefinitely.  Even Sears (cross between Myer and Target) in the Chinook Shopping Centre is seeing out its final days, bargains to be had by everyone.

Highlight: Galgary Tower.  It stands over 600ft tall, built in the late 1960 and quite a view from it's peak.  It has a glass observation deck that literally takes your breath away as you step out.  If fear of heights is your thing, this trip is not recommended.

Until next time ...
