Jasper - Day 2

Connie

The last few weeks, my eyes have been feasting on the most spectacular scenery in the world … when you think you've seen it all, you turn the corner and see more views more beautiful than the previous!  I cannot believe this place.  If you love nature, you have to visit this place … put it on your bucket list.

Today was another full day of "test Connie's boundaries".  First up, rafting down Athabasca River, where it was wet and cold, but my greatest fear, falling in, didn't happen.  Next came the horse riding; this was scarier than rafting as horses are "big", scare easily and love to gallop.  But they did behave themselves and I have to admit, I enjoyed the 1 hour of muscle-tensed riding through more Alpine forest where we hoped to encounter at least one grizzly or black bear sighting.  But luckily we didn't.

That's it for now.  Tomorrow we travel to Vancouver via a two day train ride through the Rockies (more mountains!).  Au revoir until then.

Yes, it was a "Connie get out of your comfort zone day."
What she forgot to mention was the big walk up Whistlers Mountain.
After catching a gondola up to 2,200 metres, and don't think it wasn't hard to get Connie onto that, we then walked 1.4 kilometres up to 2,400 metres.  Believe me, at altitude, that was tough going.  After a bit, no make that a lot, of bitching, Connie agreed to go all the way, so to speak , to the very top of the mountain where she was rewarded with a congratulations plaque that really didn't impress her.  I thought it was just the best feeling to stand on top of the world looking out at other mountain peaks below you.  It really makes you feel pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of life, the universe and everything.

Our last night in Jasper and tomorrow morning we jump onto the Rocky Mountaineer and head for an overnight stay in Kamloops and then onto Vancouver.

Everyone raves about this train trip so we shall soon see what all the hype is about.

Need to pack and sleep so will sign off for now.
Cheers to everyone.

Here are some more photos and videos for you to enjoy.
